Diketahui Astori meninggal di sebuah hotel bernama La di Kota Moret, Italia pada 18.12 waktu setempat. Beberapa saat setelah dia tiada, partai laga antara Genoa vs Cagliari ditunda. Tak hanya itu, Asosiasi Pesepakbola Italia meminta seluruh pertandingan Serie A dihentikan sementara waktu.
